94, 101, and Snow
These numbers (94 and 101) are the number of $30 attractive nylon insulated Alaska coats Ginger sold each day, 2 days in a row! She says she loves helping the customers.

Sunday (July 17) trip to Fairbanks
Princess has occasional trips to Fairbanks for its employees to shop and get out of the wilderness for awhile. Sunday Ginger and I got on it. We had a small list of supplies to get. There's nothing but a small
general store in Healy. We reviewed information on Fairbanks. Decided on taking a trip on a sternwheeler riverboat; see www.riverboatdiscovery.com
Joining us is our friend Leona. She lives in the Fort Myers area, and grew up in Akron, Ohio. She is married and the same age as Ernie. She works as a hostess in our King Salmon restaurant.
It is a beautiful day, 77 degrees, clear blue skies. The ship has 4 decks, we go to the 3rd and sit towards the bow (for you nonswabbies, thats the front).
First they show how Alaskan's commonly have small planes in their driveways, versus cars.
Then ahead is a float. The emcee on the boat, who did a great job, describes the plane, on how it will head towards us and be at our decl level when it gets to us. It does. As it flies around, they tell how it will do a tricky land. Head towards us again, it makes the landing and pulls alongside. The pilot is miked up and tells us some things about being a bush pilot growing up in the bush.
Later we pull alongside the home of Susan Butcher , the 4 time winner of the Iditarod Winner, who unfortunately died of cancer at the age of 51, with 3 children. Her oldest girl (about 15 yrs old) is on-shore and miked up. She shows us the puppies in training Introduces the dog team and what each dog's job is. A musher, who is also mike uo, like a NASCAR driver, takes off. He makes The command, YEE, HAW, GEE , and the one the dogs hate to hear, WHOA (stop). They fly along pulling the ATV (with no engine) at a truly fast speed. When finished they are released and jump into the river, swimming with the local kids.

We next go to an n Athabascan Indian village Deboard, and spend an hour hearing and seeing how these indians survived in wild Alaska.
It was a wonderful trip!!!

Friday after work
I've become an avid Artic Grayling fisherman.
I brought my fishing gear to work.Fridays I get up at 4:30, begin work at 6 am, and work till 2:30. I get on the Denali Park access bus at our main lodge. It goes to 3 stops; Wilderness Acess Center, Visitors Center, and Horsehoe Lake. As I enter the bus with my vest, fly rod, and camo shirt, the tourist see me as a local guide. I end up having a group of about 6, follow me down the hill. I point out the beaver dams. Then one beaver swims up and climbs over the dam, in full view of the tourists. I take time to show the "lower 48'ers" around, then begin fishing.
I catch many small grayline. They hit the fly like a rocket. I catch the biggest one yet, about 14 inches.
I become the only one on the lake, as I am fishing there are beavers all around swimming with large branches, I can hear them like squirrels chewing on logs, loudly slapping their tails. All of a sudden there is a tremendous splash a few hundred yards ahead in the shallow water. Its a Moose. In the shallow water it stand there, sticking its head in the water to eat grass, swwimming to deeper water.
It is a magnificant scene!
Female moose...there was something walking on the shoeline...a Lynx?..the baby moose?

Hike to Triple Lakes
Hiking above the Nenana River
After a 45 minute hike, I come upon the first of the 3 lakes. Surrounded by mountains on both sides, in a long valley, these lakes are crystal clear.

While hiking and fishing at the lake, a beaver swam in the pond. There were 3 beaver dams along the stream. After this I saw 4 other beavers, a moose in the water, and a female moose and baby about 50 ft from the trail in the woods.
Its amazing how big a tree beavers can chew down. I saw one swimming with a large branch, leaves and all.

July 4th Pqrty at the Homestead
We had a fun time here with a party inside and out. It was particularly fun since it was the first time to celebrate it for our many of our employees are from Eastern Europe.

Healy's 2nd Annual 4th of July parade
July 3, 2011 p.m.
I walked down the street to see the parade. Healy has only 500 full time residents. They worked hard to create this little parade, complete with the HS ROTC, fire trucks, and floats from different civic groups.
The parade begins!!..ATVs are popular here

Finally REAL Eggs

Though the food at our EDR (Emloyee Dining Room) is pretty good, they do not have real fresh eggs.
So on this Saturday off we decided to go out for breakfast. We had heard Black Diamond had a good restuarant. They picked us up at The Homestead. It was a cool rainy day. We were the only ones there for the entire time we ate.
Fresh over-easy eggs was a real treat!!!
